PORTFOLIO

Introduction

This honors portfolio is a sort of curated archive or highlight reel of my undergraduate experience. It is divided into architectural endeavors and artistic ones, despite the two being deeply intertwined, just for ease of navigation.

Admittedly, I had trouble selecting my five pieces and found myself frustrated at the presupposition that I had already done a bunch of marketable or, at the very least, academically related co-curricular activities because I was in the honors program. And I truly understand the value of interdisciplinary work; trust me, it has been made very clear to me that both the arts and architecture fields demand versatility, which I would like to think I do exhibit. I also believe in the power of not spreading oneself too thin, resting, and avoiding burnout.

So, most of these projects are academic in nature, but I’m including this disclaimer of sorts to assure you that I do have accomplishments, hobbies, and interests outside of art and architecture. I am simply choosing to showcase the most relevant work. Thank you for your understanding. Now onto the show!

Personal Statement

With my art background, ongoing pursuit of both 2D and 3D mediums, and a focus on architectural creation based on tactile discovery through iteration, I believe that I have been well-equipped to tackle any challenges I may face with a fervent drive to make something worth feeling.

With the rise of generative AI and fast fashion style disposable mass manufacturing, the power of the human hand and all the skills, work, and study behind it have become increasingly rare and necessary. A computer can never truly care about you, or fully understand what makes an image, sculpture, or constructed space emotionally resonant.

With the skill to research I acquired from my deep dive for Structural Systems II, the skills to iterate quickly from my seven project studio, the whimsy gained from travel and the emotional intelligence, spatial reasoning and technical rendering ability gained from making art, I believe I can rise to the occasion, to make stuff with empathy, thought and meaning embedded in every brushstroke, line and annotation.

I’d like to work on spiritual spaces and multifamily housing projects as I find that spiritual spaces are allowed the space and budget to focus on personal impact, and multifamily housing can be so devoid of any visible human touch that coming back to it feels like suffocating to death inside the white box thought of only as somebody else’s investment instead of feeling like home. The situation is truly dire and ought to be remedied with haste.

I’m excited to see what is next, not only for me but for art and architecture designed by and for people as a whole!
